Panasonic Enterprise Solutions Company, an Official Partner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Verizon IndyCar Series, have installed 20 networked high-definition (HD) Lighthouse LED video display boards at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, to complement the 92-foot Lighthouse LED scoring pylon erected in 2014.
Home of the Indianapolis 500, Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis, and the Brickyard 400, as well as INDYCAR and the Verizon IndyCar Series, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the highest-capacity sporting venue in the world, with a permanent seating capacity of 257,000. The 20 LED displays are installed along the grandstands and in the infield, providing full coverage of America’s top races to 98% of seat holders at IMS.
In Turns 1 and 4, and above Gasoline Alley, the displays are more than three and a half times the size of the previous boards, with the displays at Turns 1 and 4 each exceeding 2,200 total square feet. The boards positioned above the Media Center and at the south end of the Gasoline Alley Suites are more than four times larger, with each having a total display area greater than 600 square feet. Displays are positioned in the infield and around the track so that, regardless of location, race fans can keep up with live racing, sponsor messages, and racing-relevant entertainment and interviews.
“We’re proud to be a part of the LED display project at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said Ed Whitaker, General Manager of Lighthouse – The Americas. “Our partner, Panasonic Enterprise Solutions Company, met IMS’ needs with their creativity and engineering talents.”
Enhancing the Fan Experience with LED Display Technology
Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis means one thing – the Indy 500. Race fans attend qualifying events, and arrive early on race day. With hours to spend before the event, IMS’ upgraded LED display system creates an exciting environment for fans, serving up historical vignettes, highlights from previous races, live interviews with top drivers and team owners, and pre-race hype – all in vivid, high-definition detail, with Lighthouse’s customary wide viewing angles and excellent image quality.
“Lighthouse’s collaboration with Panasonic at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway resulted in an incredible fan experience,” added Whitaker. “Today’s sports fan demands the creature comforts of home viewing at live sporting events, and high-definition Lighthouse LED displays help every race fan feel like they’re watching the race in their living room, with 250,000 of their closest friends.”
